The Center on the Common is an arts and cultural center located in Harvard Massachusetts. Housed in the Hapgood Library on the historic town common, the Center seeks to foster cultural, artistic and educational development for community engagement.
For nearly two years, a group of energetic volunteers ran the Pilot Project in the Hapgood Library to demonstrate the need for an artistic and cultural presence in the town center. The success of the Pilot Project clearly demonstrated the need for this type of organization. The Pilot Project was able to present a wide range of cultural, artistic and creative events that attracted an enthusiastic audience. Now building on that base, The Center on the Common will attempt to broaden both the program and the audience of the Pilot Project while creating a more permanent organization. The transition will see a growth of both the events and audience, a re-purposing of the Old Library and the development of a non-profit organization that can become a permanent institution for the town.
